ABOUT TED, TEDx

TEDTED is a nonprofit organization devoted to the mission: ideas worth spreading. Started as a conference in California in 1984, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with many initiatives. At a TED conference, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. Speakers have included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende, and Gordon Brown. On TED.com, talks from the conferences are shared with the world for free as TED Talk videos. A new talk is posted every weekday. Through the Open Translation Project, talks are subtitled by volunteers worldwide.

TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe through TEDx events. These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and to share the latest research in their local areas that spark conversations in their communities. TEDx events include live speakers and recorded TED Talks, and are organized independently under a free license granted by TED. These events are not controlled by TED, but event organizers agree to abide by our format, and are offered guidelines for curation, speaker coaching, event organizing and more. They learn from us and from each other. More than 3000 events are now held annually.

The organizers of TEDxZalaegerszeg, a team of enthusiastic persons committed to TEDx, are in the service of delivering forward-looking ideas. We have been following the inspiring, informative TED talks for a long time. The idea to launch a TEDxZalaegerszeg was born back in 2017, a dream that will finally come true in 2021.

We have chosen this title and topic because the year 2020 has brought all of us unprecedented CHALLENGES. More than ever before, uncertainty is present in all areas of life. What next? What will happen to our everyday lives, our social relationships, our values, our culture? How can we overcome obstacles, how can we move on victoriously?

With our authentic, inspiring, thought-provoking presentations, we seek ANSWERS to these and similar questions.
